FAQ

What can a gravity bar hold?

Glass Balls

Using a piece of paper with weights on the bottom, we found our Gravity Bars can hold 5 grams per inch of paper width. Using this figure we can calculate the expected performance of any length of paper. The chart above shows typical paper sizes along the left, and typical paper weights along the top.

Steel Balls

For a triple-strength Gravity Bar, email us after placing your order and request steel balls for an additional $1.00 per inch of Gravity Bar to cover the materials and additional shipping weight.

We use a rich and smooth penetrative wax-oil compound on all our products. A dry dusting every year is really all it should take, but if you spill something you might want to use a damp cloth for cleanup. If you need to use soap, do not use dish soap. Use something gentle or wood-specific.

Beyond that, it's up to you! Ignore the finish for your whole life and watch it age gracefully alongside you, or seek a re-freshening with a hardwax finish like Osmo in a decade or two.

Cooking items like the Chopping Block come with more detailed care instructions to keep them looking their best.

We do! We're control freaks, so we've been growing a shipping & logistics department to ensure complete control over our customer experience and ethical promises.

And here's the boring/wordy part: shipping policy

We buy entirely from a big hardwood supplier in Winnipeg. They exclusively source from certified sustainable forestry outfits, and they ensure we're getting high quality kiln-dried material that's ready for fine woodworking. The last thing you need is to worry about unreliable wood warping issues from improperly dried hardwood, so we've removed that risk entirely from our business by only buying from trusted suppliers.

Oh no problem! Try anything for 30 days from the time it arrives, risk free.

Is this the place where I should brag we've only had 1 return? At over 5,000 orders that is truly incredible; thank you to all our incredible customers!

And here's the more boring/wordy part: returns policy

Yes! (For Gravity Bars) Results may vary, but medium size 3M Command Strips claim to hold 3 lbs each. We recommend using at least three (3) for a 20" Gravity Bar and five (5) for a 32" Gravity Bar.

Make sure you clean your wall surface before installation.

Not really. If the fabric is less than 5g per inch of width you'll be inserting, it can hold it, but it can't reliably be pushed up into the balls as it tends to bind/squish/fold. If it is a little stiffer, it will make it up into the mechanism, but I'd guess whatever fabric is stiff enough to do so is going to be heavier than 5g per inch.
